Scumbag Labour - The Fucking Welsh

Here's one from the archives that I only came across recently and even that was by chance. I had been asked on the facebook page to post the quote about the African visitor to Wales who stated that colonialism was more entrenched in Wales than any country he'd been to. After a google I found an extract from the book 'Neighbours from Hell' by Mike Parker.

At the bottom of the page was the quote, it isn't credited to anyone specific just a journalist from Africa who was sent over to Wales to cover the devolution referendum in 1997.

I've never read this book, I have heard about it but from what I read on that one page it's quite clear that it is a book that needs to be read. That's something people don't hear me saying very often. It recalls a reply the then Prime Minister Tony Blair gave to a question from Dafydd Wigley.
'We give him an assembly in Wales, and he still complains...
It would be good once in a while to get a bit of gratitude.'
~ Tony Blair
It instantly made me think of a recent picture I'd seen of the old bag Thatcher that was shared by a Scottish account which had the following quote that she had said in The Times back in 1990.
'We English, who are a marvellous people, are really very generous to Scotland.'
~ Thatcher

But it continued with a mention to how Blair reacted when he was hearing the results of the 1999 Welsh Election. The Red Tories were not having such an easy time by their standards and only won 28 out of the 60 seats. Enough for them to be the largest party but three short of a majority. In the 2005 book released by Blair's former Press Officer Lance Price he is said to have repeatedly used the term 'the fucking Welsh'.

After the book was released complaints were made to North Wales Police who had to ask the CPS for advice. Naturally the whole thing was brushed aside with it being put down to Blair meaning the Labour Party in Wales as opposed to the people of Wales. Perhaps the war criminal really was just miffed at his Blairites this side of the bridge and not pissed off that the people of Wales were not showing him the gratitude he believed we should have given him.

Not even half a page of Mike Parker's book and yet it gives us three brilliant anecdotes about the psyche of the people of Wales and our then colonial master. I wonder what the rest of the book will bring.
